@trini I see you still haven't gotten an answer. I myself am not sure what you're asking; "lab power" usually just means a bench power supply, and although I've interfaced to uarts, I don't know what is a "clever" way.

If I'm the only one drawing a blank, ok, that's just me, but otherwise it conceivably could help to explain your question more? Maybe?

@trini It's more cheap than clever, but I've used a few different types of USB relays over the years but bang-for-the-buck, this 16-channel relay for < $20 USD is hard to beat. I run 5V (and/or 12V) from an ATX PSU through these to a bunch of DUTs.
