I feel like it's trying to tell me something

@MLE_online isn't this what appeared on the wall at the emperor belshazzars feast

@fredy That would make me belshazzar, but I had no feast :/

@MLE_online that's good because if it was at a feast it would be foretelling your doom but because you're not feasting you should be fine

@fredy If I learned one thing from going to church for 18 years, it's that no matter what era it is, Babylon is still around, and powerful, and dangerous. Doom, my ass.

@MLE_online Years ago someone discovered these signs had no password to access and there was a rash of humorous and/or obscene hacking. Since then security has been enhanced, though perhaps Herr Hebur Reler has cracked the code. 🤔

@bosquebill That's my guess. I need to figure out how to do that

@MLE_online I'm going to need the backstory -- no matter how dumb it is -- in order to be able to move on with my life.

@lnklnx you'll never know the answer, and you'll increasingly find yourself obsessed with knowing with each passing day. Over the next year, your dwelling will transform into a temple dedicated to your search.

Newspaper clippings with the letters N E B U R R E L E R A S O E T M circled in red marker will be tacked to all your walls.

In one corner of the room will lean a large corkboard. At its center, a photo of Maureen LeRoberts. Pushpins with lengths of yarn will indicate apparent connections between her and various government officials whose photos fill the rest of the board.

@MLE_online @lnklnx

Is there any chance the sign is near a north east burbank?

@alienghic No chance. It was right here in El Monte. Either these signs are all having the same weird glitch or someone is having some fun

Either someone knows how to pick locks, these things have a universal key, or someone had left the control box unlocked when they parked. It's locked now with the mysterious message on it

@MLE_online

The signs are not infrequently left unsecured and people have periodically been able to reprogram them.

As an example though the article is behind a paywall the search engines have this image.

The linked article: https://gothamist.com/news/cars-ruin-cities-electronic-road-signs-park-slope-hacked-anti-driver-messages

Though that sign reprogramming has a much clearer intent than Nebur Rebler

@alienghic I'm curious how they locked it after reprogramming it. It doesn't lock automatically because the bottom latch can be turned to the closed position and back open. The top one though it definitely locked

@MLE_online Wonder if it’s just a shitty wafer lock that’s susceptible to raking

@MLE_online According to Reddit (= dubious), it's a firmware bug these things have, nobody hacked or lockpicked it, it just crashed. Probably reading code as data and displaying it.

@MLE_online There's probably firmware to debug on http[/ftp]://media.wanco.com if you can find a login.

@yngmar I wonder why, if it's a bug, this message only appears online two other times and both recently in the LA area. If this was a common way for them to crash, I would think we would see pics of this from all over the place for a few years
