@torvalds
Am I the only one who only sees a gray empty pic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@angrylinus @torvalds gray 😅
maybe he tried Gimp for the first time. 😝
@dominicwrege @torvalds It's because I'm grey now, everything is grey, life is grey, gray is now grey
@torvalds I been waiting 5 minutes for the image to load... It wasn't loading it's just a small tree on the right on a grey sky
@torvalds I thought at first my Mastodon was taking really long to load the image 😄
@torvalds Could you put actual image description in the alt text? This would make it much better for blind folks to understand what it is about.
Alt text isn't exactly the place to put hashtags, since it is meant for describing images to folks who can't see or have other difficulties in interpreting images you might post.
@torvalds imagine having a meaningful alt text so people understand that you photographed the sky instead of them thinking the image just ain't loading for them.
@ErikUden @torvalds the alt text is meaningful, but only for people who can also see the image
Edit: Apparently I need to clarify that this isn't how you use alt text.
@torvalds Went to St. Helen's recently and that's what the view looked like.
@torvalds The eclipse as seen from the Portland area this morning?
@Linux_Is_Best @torvalds But did you? I saw the same thing. Lots of fog this morning
@torvalds your view of the eclipse was worse than mine
@torvalds “The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.”
@torvalds For too long did I think the image wasn't loading, and I was trying my damnest to help it. :l
@FiveSeventeen @ErikUden @torvalds at no point did I argue that it was proper use of alt text, I know about accessibility, thanks though
@FiveSeventeen @ErikUden @torvalds this is even worse use of alt text. I said the alt text was meaningful, but only for people who can also see the picture. Which is clearly not proper alt text usage, since it's supposed to be able to replace the picture.
@freestyle @ErikUden @torvalds I didn't claim it did, because it doesn't.
The current alt text should be in the toot, while an alt text should be written to describe the image, something along the lines of: "Mostly grey picture of a cloudy sky; a tree-branch is barely visible on the right."
@angrylinus @torvalds it looks like an annular eclipse to me. Easy to confuse.
