Remember when Google said they’ll be bringing “ChromeOS and Android ecosystems together”?

Surprise surprise, they lied.

They laid off almost all employees working on ChromeOS and made a clear stance that Android will be replacing it altogether at some point in the future.

@technobaboo Given that most of ChromeOS userspace is custom anyway, I guess porting ChromeOS DE to Android wouldn't be much of a challenge and at that point why would they keep CrOS, right?

@technobaboo Why do you think it took them a **year** to enable USB-C AltDP mode on Pixel 8 despite hardware supporting it?

@elly But, what about x86 support? Chrome OS Flex can run on any old laptop.

@elly True for most people, but it is useful for those who only need limited functionality and who are prone to downloading all sorts of malware.

@doctor_zoidberg My elderly mother seems to be perfectly happy with Debian KDE (and previously Xubuntu 16.04 before she bought a new laptop) akko_shrug
