@mcc a younger, dumber me thought nicotine stop-smoking gum might help with weight loss

it very noticeably did SOMETHING, but not anything particularly helpful

Considering changing my morning ritual of simulating drinking coffee (taking a caffeine pill of dosage equivalent to 1 cup of espresso) to simulating drinking tea (taking a caffeine pill plus an L-theanine supplement)

@mcc throwing my vote in for "tea" (or its simulated equivalent)

@d6 Is L-theanine actually adequate to simulate it lol

@d6 I have been for many years operating under the belief I do not like tea but lately I have been considering challenging this to see whether I actually don't like tea or if I simply have a fixed idea I don't like tea. It seems like there are many kinds of tea.

I am visiting Japan in the fall so maybe that will be an opportunity to have Tea Experiences

@mcc do you have ADHD and/or has your body just adapted to the caffeine?

@ceresbzns I have a generally elevated energy level if I take a strictly metered (1 espresso / 2 cokes / 100mg pill) amount of caffeine. If I take more I get a mild energy spike on the day I take it, but my body adapts so quickly that it's counterproductive (as if I raise my caffeine level above 100mg/day my body quickly starts expecting that amount). I have no comment on medical conditions.

@mcc yeah, the adaptation is a bear. I recently cut back because I was tired of toeing the daily recommended limit just to be functional

@ceresbzns Yeah, I had to I experiment before settling on my current amount.

@mcc do you notice a difference between coffee vs pill? last time I used caffeine pills I felt like it was a much faster / more intense, but it was so long ago I can't be certain I was controlling for dosage

@ceresbzns I drink espresso, and I feel espresso gives me a punchier energy spike whereas the "Wakeups" pills sold at pharmacies in Canada are more just sustained energy. The pills are definitely punchier/less mellow than soda, however.

@makeworld maybe i should go back to drinking coffee in the morning. the main thing holding me back is my moka pot makes like 4 cups of coffee, so it feels kinda wasteful unless I have someone to share it with. but also buying bags of ground espresso and not finishing them before they spoil because I didn't drink much of it is also wasteful, sooo
