@kernellogger @LWN The idea of bugspray is particularly compelling to me. It may be a good way to get the kernel maintainers to get on board with having users and stakeholders submit reports to the kernel bugzilla instead of the mess we have now. It can also make things much easier for connecting reports between downstream and upstream and tracking fixed status.

Yup, up to a point, as some subsystems (DRM, SOF) use other bug trackers -- so people sometimes will have to be told "re-submit this <overthere>". :-/

And a lot depends on people doing the triaging, which need to be found and educated.

And somebody needs to clean the current mess up, as we afaik can't use bugspray yet for many bugs, because that would interfere with some existing workflows.

side note: the aspects "external bug trackers" as well as "some regressions are only reported by mail" sadly afaics make bugzilla + bugspray unsuitable to directly use that solution for my regression tracking work. :-/

@kernellogger @corbet @LWN darn, it makes me realize again and again, people (especially maintainers) are getting old... (or gray, at least :))

yeah, that's why we agreed this year that "colouring your hair in a natural tone" will be mandatory for everyone participating in next years Linux kernel maintainers summit. 🙃
