Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) have announced another online amateur radio course. Those in Canada who would like to sign up should start by having a look at https://www.rac.ca/amateur-radio-courses/

If you sign up because of this post let Dave Goodwin know (I knew him in university!) that you saw the post from Mastodon!

@va3db RAC needs a mastodon presence!

Unrelated, RAC news/bulletins are going out now over the packet bulletin system courtesy of one of the local guys that got back into packet with me, which I think is pretty cool.

@ve3qbz I knew Dave Goodwin in University and I have already suggested RAC needs a Mastodon presence! That is why I added the bit about letting him know where they saw this post!

Packet radio eh? As a pioneer I should go have a listen. I did do packet radio broadcasts for Larry Kayser back in the day. Carleton U did HF ASCII and Baudot RTTY CARF brodcasts years ago. 🙂

@va3db Yep, VE3KNO got permission from RAC to start copying their news releases on to the packet BBS bulletin forwarding space.

@va3db
Maybe the last one before RAC gets eaten by ARRL and y'all are gouverned by the FCC?
All just while heading out to Greenland...

@VE7WYC @on5zo Maybe we will just have to go down and burn their White House again.

@va3db @on5zo Always something I bring up to friends in Europe that don't understand the difference between the US and Canada. Some were surprised that we have our own currency.

@VE7WYC @on5zo Yes everyone knows England and France are the same country with the same currency.

I'm not a caveman you know!
And I speak both your languages. 😁

@on5zo @VE7WYC Well, we won't force poutine down your throat.

@on5zo @VE7WYC We could offer you some maple syrup and maybe a beaver tail.

@va3db @VE7WYC
We have maple syrup in the fridge. Again: not a caveman 😁
Prefered pancake topping!

However beaver stuff... Bring it on!

@on5zo @VE7WYC Yes! Maple syrup is the *only* topping for pancakes! and vanilla ice cream and waffles and and...

@VE7WYC @on5zo Poutine or "Heart attack in a bowl"

@va3db @VE7WYC @on5zo Also a good source of vitamin C - a single bowl of poutine will likely get you 100% of your daily recommended amount.

@va3db @VE7WYC

Vanilla ice and chocolate sauce!

Or:
"crêpe pommes flambées au calvados"
if wanting to show off.

However 99/109 it's basic maple syrup for me.

@on5zo @VE7WYC yes chocolate is good too! But when the syrup starts running that's time for the ice-cream and maple syrup. Once of my uncles had a farm and he sugared off (as it is called here) in the spring. We used to get our syrup from him when I was young.

Next ingredient is OK for you too:

https://purepasturefarms.com/blog/the-surprising-benefits-of-eating-cheese-curds

I think if you are careful with how you prepare the gravy (lots of gravy mixes have essentially no fat in them), it's not a terrible dish to consume.

@ve3qbz @on5zo @VE7WYC My grandfather was in charge of a cheese factory in Newbliss I think it was. So, no. I love cheese curds!

@va3db @on5zo @VE7WYC a cheese factory on a sufficiently sized boat. I'd just roam the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway peddling curds portside

@va3db @KC8JC @on5zo @VE7WYC bought at a gas station? My favourite part of eastern Ontario and Quebec road trips is buying curds at gas stations.

@ve3qbz @va3db @on5zo
There once was a cheesemonger
Scott was his name
From port to port with cheese he came
His favourite was the soft squeeky curd
And nary he spoke a negative word!

@ve3qbz @KC8JC @on5zo @VE7WYC Where does one find decent cheese curds these days? A freaking gas station!?

@va3db @KC8JC @on5zo @VE7WYC you're in Ottawa - surely you know about cheese curds in Quebec gas stations?

@ve3qbz @KC8JC @on5zo @VE7WYC Never buy gas in PQ but will look next time!

@KC8JC @ve3qbz @va3db @VE7WYC

And to say it started with RAC teaching classes!
And my lame joke.
And now I want pancakes.
And y'all just continued while I was asleep.
And what is cheese curd?

@on5zo @KC8JC @ve3qbz @va3db I see that proper poutine is still on the table then. Cheese curd is an ingredient of poutine, it is a by-product of cheese production. Little nuggets of squeaky curdled milk.

@VE7WYC @on5zo @KC8JC @ve3qbz Well, it is cheese just not as we know it. (Startrek theme here) *whistles innocently*

@oe1omk @VE7WYC @on5zo Oh you lot missed the anger between the two groups until we merged. Almost fisticuffs at times! HAHAH CRRL guys against CARF. It was silly. I had some inside knowledge at the time of the merger. CRRL was losing money and well, we made a deal. ;)
