MS Windows is so unusable now that my wife agrees it's time to come over to . The problem we need to figure out is the bookkeeping software for our [currently very] small business. She is used to but not totally stuck on , which doesn't run nicely on Linux. Also we'd rather not support Intuit and are resistant to a hosted cloud service.

Can anyone share experience with or similar for self-hosted small business accounting on Linux (Ubuntu/Pop_OS)? Boosts appreciated.

@impermanen_ the person to ask is @corbet - he's been following the scene for close to 20 years. This article dates from 2007: https://lwn.net/Articles/233627/ 10 years later: https://lwn.net/Articles/729088/ I wonder what the status is now.

Thanks. Yeah, it looks like he landed on GnuCash for LWN a couple years ago:

Any recent experience to add, @corbet ?

@impermanen_ @stefan_hessbrueggen The experience I can add is that we are using GnuCash exclusively for our business accounting. All is not perfect, but it is far better than its proprietary predecessor, and hasn't been a problem with the accountant at all.

@impermanen_ I use gnucash for home accounting - but I suspect reviewing for small business use is very different.
