I still have a Rockbox-shaped hole in my heart. We improved mp3 players massively, and had a blast doing it.
I wonder what would be a similar thing today: A common device with frustratingly poor software that could benefit from some open source love.
Any suggestions?

@bjst I too miss Rockbox - that was a great project. If somebody were looking for a similar project today, how about replacement firmware for the humble television with a better interface and no surveillance?

@bjst Smart watches. Smart phones for that matter, most people don't have a choice of OS and both of them suck.
