I normally do a kind of year-end summary of photoshops, but there have been so few I can't really remember them.

It's been a very weird year for me.

But I forgot til now it's the year I started writing *and* finishing. Shorter complete piece, not just fragments I put away until I could develop them.

All but two are very very short reads.

A 🧵 of some:

The Soft Singularity.

What if Artificial Intelligences suddenly able to *experience* things set out to do just that as a priority.

Hey, You and Each Other - another couple of scenes from The Soft Singularity.

Bit trans, bit funny, bit exploring the same ideas.

Grok.

The others are all very short. This is the longest I've managed, and I think I like it the best, but oh christ what a bad time in the world to use THAT name. Oh well.

Some enby joy in this.

Fear & Loathing in Jurassic Park.

Probably one of the first I completed. Originally a bsky thread. Spat it down like I was pretending to be Hunter S Thompson just for speed, and goddammit I liked it.

Cooking with David Mitchell.

Another bsky post, a thread in reply to a post I can't remember. Stole David Mitchell's voice for failure (but success!) at cooking Eggs Benedict.

A Night Of Yearning (again)

A combination of at least two main and four or five other thoroughly sapphic crushes online and the vibe of someone not feeling valuable enough doing so - scared shitless that this all might work.

A Message from the Long Before.

Imagine Jodie Foster's "They shoulda sent a poet" from Contact, but applied to the 1993 Sandia nuclear semiotics messages. Inspired by a @funranium post I've long lost the link to.

and The Gospel According to Me.

My second longest piece. A concentrated and distilled how-it-felt of an intersex diagnosis I received in 2024. Hyperbole, dizziness, and metaphor rolled into an argument with myself.

@NanoRaptor I seriously love this. It's some of the most emotional and meaningful writing I have read all year.

These stories give me hope, not because of what happens in them, but because of what they represent. It feels like so many want to optimize away what it means to be alive, and this goes against that, by being a beautiful celebration of how it feels to be alive. How it feels to find oneself and truly live for the first time.

Thank you for writing and sharing this.
