I've seen a lot of bands live. A lot. Going to concerts was one of my favorite things to do until the COVID pandemic.

But there are a few artists and bands that I really regret not seeing live, and there's little to zero chance that I'll get the opportunity now:

- The Smiths
- Warren Zevon
- Pink Floyd
- Talking Heads
- XTC

Just thinking about this now while listening to "Slippery People" by Talking Heads.

I *did* get to see Mavis Staples do that one at the Carolina Theatre in Durham in 2019, though. So I have that going for me, which is nice. Seeing Mavis was a damn near religious experience. What a force of nature.

(Of course, I could say "The Beatles" too, but they stopped touring before I was born so... that would've been tricky to accomplish.)

@jzb Mine is Tom Waits, where I don’t think he’ll tour again.

Pink Floyd (minus Waters) I habe seen, though.

@der_mit_ph I can take or leave Waters. It would've been something to have seen The Wall tour with the entire band, but... I'd have been happy to have seen the Delicate Sound of Thunder iteration.

Concert sound systems improved A LOT toward the end of the 80s. I suspect that early 80s Floyd would not have sounded quite so good even if the experience would've been something to remember anyway.

@jzb I would have loved to see Pink Floyd, certainly. I did manage to catch the Talking Heads at Red Rocks many years ago ... *that* was a good show...

@jzb That was the tour I saw. My second stadium concert, around 4 years after seeing Queen. And the sound quality was something from another planet compared to Queen.

But in retrospect setlist and show were relatively boring, it was no „The Wall“.

@der_mit_ph I expect they had little flexibility in the set list given the complexity of the stage show they had going with DSoT. Still, I do wish I'd been able to see it.

In something like 2017 Meg and I went to see Brit Floyd, one of the tribute acts. They were note-perfect but kind of sterile -- they tried too hard to replicate the on-record sound of Floyd and didn't open it up. One of the things I've really enjoyed seeing The Cure live, for example, is that they take the songs to a whole new level when playing live.
