yes I'm sure a guy who's done literally no mm contributions at all previously has, out of nowhere, reworked one of the most complicated parts of mm in a way that an LLM would (i.e. total unmergeable trash) by sheer coincidence... 👀

At least the other blatantly AI-generated patches people have sent were small, reasonable, and kinda meh ok low priority but we can take.

I do hate to be negative like this (despite perhaps appearances) but it's important to be firm when somebody behaves poorly.

@ljs i could write a huge blog post about it but LLM is a tool designed to exploit or promote pseudo-intellectualism. It is the perfect tool for people that want to have expertise but without putting the work that it requires.

@ljs this is one thing I don’t understand, why do they try to deny so hard that they didn’t use AI tools? I mean, okay, if you used it, just disclose it and take ownership of your use.

Then the discussion just gets completely ludicrous with the person denying the obvious and not being able to defend its own code.

But a big part of maintainership is being able to be grump and to say no and also fuck no when necessary...

I saw some talk about how we should all be always nice to people in these communities everywhere, but I think that's actually toxic in itself - pathological positivity will result in issues, you need to signal good AND bad.

What obviously you should do though is always be fair, civil, and professional though, which I do _try_ to be even when I get annoyed when somebody is doing something like this.

And it's like trying to compete AI slop with my own work in the area too... like dude, come on man, I've had a really bad 2026 (apart from Arsenal winning PL and another <shh secret> good thing (TM)), gimme a break :P

@ljs @mairacanal Sort of like traffic. You should always drive politely, but most governments reserve the right to respond violently to people violating traffic laws in too dangerous a fashion.
