Transequatorial propagation (TEP) on 6m is strong today. It follows Earth's magnetic field lines for certain distances across the equator for complex reasons, allowing N/S America or JPN/AUS communication on VHF at times.

The lines are not parallel, green line on the map is "zero" declination. You can see nice curved blue lines from Eastern US to South America, which the signals follow. I suspect this is marginal from the PNW, according to that map.
