Not me thinking "but if there _was_ a Carrington event, I might be able to relax in the dark this weekend instead of all the stuff we have scheduled."

@vees

2 of my bucket list items are
Experience Aurora Borealis
See the Milky Way
...and possibly photograph both.

Well, if we get a major blackout, I might get both of these things checked off this weekend, without even traveling North!

@vees Solar flare might knock out the Internet. Or just kill us all. Either way at least I’ll get some rest.

@kelvin0mql @vees you need to visit the Australian outback, Milky Way easily visible (much better vantage point) and you can also see the Magellanic Clouds, with the naked eye.

@jmorris @vees
I very nearly had a 6-month assignment in Australia when I worked for Oracle.

Back in my 30s, I would've tolerated a flight that long.

Now, in the era of perpetual Covid, I won't (voluntarily) tolerate any situation stuck in a confined space with other people.

However, if I win the lottery, I'm finding someone with a blue water sailboat and hiring them full-time. They'll teach me to sail, and I'll finally see Europe, Australia, etc.
