So I took some grief yesterday about the "clickbait" headline on the brief Rust news I put up:

https://lwn.net/Articles/1049831/

In person, though, I've gotten far more grief for adding the "(successful)" parenthetical afterward — folks say the original was better.

Oh well, I've learned to be more careful with headlines now.

@corbet Another vote for keeping the original, was disappointed to see the edit 😉

@axboe @corbet the original was much more fun, especially because all other headlines have been very accurate and I’ve never seen click bait before on LWN😁
I’d also vote for keeping it!

@corbet Personally, I enjoyed the original. I get it but things have been going too well for too long. I think there’s only one way this could “end“, so it was a fun little tease.

I’m sorry you had to take heat.

@corbet IMO both are fine, neither rustled my jimmies, though the parenthetical version delivered more info at-a-glance. :)

@corbet if the original was just without the parenthetical, I think it's much better with it added

Thank you for adding the "(successful)" parenthetical, and not burying the lede. <3

@corbet I got a good giggle out of the original!

@corbet sorry to hear that you experienced distress over the headline. And I commend your decision to extend it for clarity, even when I must admit I got a good chuckle out of the original.

The only criticism I could offer is that the headline didn't need any parentheses. But that's a very minor quibble in the grand scheme of things.

@corbet I called it clickbait, but I never meant it as insult. Don't take it too harshly.
