I’m trying to get into and, as we all know, you need an app for something like that. But what app should I use? I just need distance, pace and perhaps a map, but more importantly I’d like to not sign a contract in blood that gives away my data and first born child to a multinational shoemaker. I can live with (non-“personalized”) adds or a payed app if it’s any good.

Quite happy with Fitotrack. Open source, not snoopy, does basic mapping and statistics on your phone, and can even talk to bluetooth heart rate monitors. No automatic upload anywhere, though, but as far as I'm concerned that's a feature 😊

I was going to suggest using RunnerUp ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.runnerup ) but saw in a comment that you're on iOS

Which I guess means you've already signed a contract in blood that gives away all your data, so I undertake why you wouldn't be able to do that again 😂

Having said that, perhaps Outrun https://outrun.tadris.de/ is a good option.

I can't recommend it, since I haven't used it, but worth taking a look at

@folfdk Honestly I’m not sure Android is much better for privacy unless tweaked somehow. If I were to buy another phone I would go for the fairphone running one of the de-googled OS options but that’s besides the point of this thread:) I’ll look into Outrun thanks!

@jpelckolsen @folfdk after thorough consideration I finally decided to get a second phone in addition to the one my employer issued, and I did end up with a Fairphone running e/OS/ - so of course I dug out this old thread and installed FitoTrack from F-droid (thanks for the recommendation @toke )
