@ljs Yah, same weak point for me. Need an unsustainable amount of volume for it to improve.

@conor @ljs legs are weird for me. I get stronger and can squat/deadlift more but they don’t really grow much. Maybe I should try more volume but high volume squats just suck 😕
and let’s not even talk about calves

@ljs this is what I was doing that I considered unsustainable, but my bench flew up doing it. Really benching 3x a week is probably enough volume for me, but I can't even get 3x a week of it in with my current schedule. Never really done much by way of isolation stuff, pretty much don't use "machines". Well, other than the pulldown/row combi thing and back extensions. Never really liked them compared to compounds or db stuff.

@ljs

Heh, I did as a matter of fact..

@sven @ljs If there's one thing I have, it's legs.. Never really did volume stuff, just pushed the weight but I feel like I'm genetically predisposed cos my lil brother didn't get my parent's chicken legs either. Calves I feel like you gotta cycle for or something, calf raises always look like such a cope exercise to me.

@conor @ljs I like how Thursday is just „bench 110kg for 10 sets“ and nothing else :D

@ljs @conor has to be kg, if it was lbs you could probably still add +5lbs every session and call it a day instead of that high volume madness ;)

@sven @ljs "just", but it sucked. Those sets were hard, needed a trustworthy spotter for the last 3-4.

@ljs I like number going up, which is the whole point of powerlifting training I guess.. I only ran that sort of extreme program to try something radically different because my bench plateaued at like 100x2 for a few months with what I had been doing. It was only done for like 3 months, into a few week break, into 3 months again. Rest of the program was indicative though of what I ran pre covid.

@conor @ljs oh yeah, didn’t mean to imply that these were easy. When I had more time to work out I did 10x10 squats with surprisingly low weight for a month or two. By set 6 I was usually ready to just give up because it sucked so much.

@ljs @sven eh, not so "stacked" now, that was from a pre-covid program and since 2022 not doing anything within 20% of what's listed there.

@sven @ljs Yah, I didn't think you were saying it was easy. My point was more that that day was awful, even though the volume wasn't the highest and there was nothing else in it. For context, my 1rm at that time was 130 kg, so those triples were at like 85% of my max. Still better than high volume squats though, since not nearly as taxing on your body.

@ljs When I started working out I was a fat shit with zero muscle (3 years of sitting at a computer after quitting sport), I tried lots of different stuff. Compounds were what kept me coming back, and I stuck to it. If that's machines and hypertrophy for you, more power to ya :)

@conor @ljs nice! I really really want to reach 140kg once. Highest I got before the last cut was 112.5kgx2 but that dropped down to maybe 100kg now again. I think I’m at the point where I can’t just cut at >1kg/week and expect to lose almost no strength.
