My rule for the Fediverse is that if I want to reply to a post in a language I don't speak (English and French), I'll reply in that language. I double-translate it;writing my reply in DeepL, then run that through Google translate back to English to make sure it makes sense.
Unrelated: my wife has been learning Portuguese on and off for a while though.

It's possible that the translator doesn't know the difference; and this is one of the catches to machine translation.

renata@cosocial.ca@WTL I think it's the beach culture part of it. I would call this "a walk on the beach" rather than "going to the beach" - I need to have a swim when I "go to the beach", it's a ritual.
