Probably some RISC-V stuff, but hopefully other things too ;)

James Wainwright is now presenting "Open source all the way down: developing firmware in parallel with open silicon".

In the context of the OpenTitan open source root-of-trust project, the hardware, its tests and firmware are all developed in lockstep in a monorepo.

“Some people think it’s controversial to take away a lane from cars and to put in a bike lane. I think it’s controversial to only have one way of getting around. We have choices in all other parts of our lives, but when it comes to transportation, we only have one option.”

i really cannot overstate how all political conflicts throughout all of human history are between, on the one side, the people who believe we can build a just and equitable society that cares for everybody, and on the other side, these people:

Switzerland passes law requiring software in the public sector. "All public bodies must disclose the source code of software developed by or for them, unless precluded by third-party rights or security concerns" Well done @maemst, great work!

@pid_eins and myself are hosting a MC track at and the CfP closes next week. The best time to submit a talk was last month, the next best time is now!

"Kernel <-> Userspace/Init/System Management boundaries and APIs MC" - the focus is on topics related to the APIs and interfaces sitting at the boundary between the kernel and init systems/system management layers, with a special attention directed towards current pain points and omissions.

@keithp @jack @stephanetavera @blaine ya, it's not really a folding bike. More of a small quick-disassembling bike. Certainly not the sort of thing for a quick fold to take on a bus/subway

@jack @blaine @stephanetavera ya, I'm super pumped -- I got it from a friend who was too small for mine and I haven't really gotten a chance to use it yet, but hopefully it'll work out for the next round of conferences in a few months

these aren't "odd" laws, they're crucial ones for pedestrian safety. and Waymo regularly fails to follow them. this type of reporting seriously misses the mark, it's basically free advertising at this point

@blaine @jack @stephanetavera that's how I ended up with one of the Bike Friday quick-disassemble luggage/trailer bikes ;)

@BostonBikeBlockers I couldn't find anything, so on a whim I made @babikeblockers this morning. I wasn't quite sure how to start it, but then on the way home I ended up running into one -- it's some work truck, but there's pretty much always someone parked blocking the bike lane there when I go by...

NEW EPISODE:

"Killed by a Traffic Engineer"

In his new book, Wes Marshall argues that his fellow traffic engineers need to do some deep soul searching about the rules they follow so that they no longer design a system that kills tens of thousands of people per year.

🧵 In 2020, I nearly died from mysterious industrial chemical exposure at my apartment. Later, in 2023, I discovered my employer was dumping toxic waste into the apartment windows from their Skunkworks semiconductor fab next-door. I tipped off the US EPA, who sent their env cops to raid Apple's plant in Aug of 2023. The US EPA finally released the report of their enforcement inspections & sent me a copy on Friday. 💀 ⬇️
