@palmer That was me (on 680) on !@#$ New Years Eve -- with warm food in the car. I took a deep breath and limped home on a flat tire.

@tommythorn I called for a tow, but I should have just driven because turns out at least one wheel died anyway.

@palmer Miraculously the damage to my wheel, while ugly, wasn't bad enough to have to replace it. I did end up replacing all tires though. I went back to find the pot hole and doesn't even look that big but in the rain it was impossible to see.

@tommythorn that's lucky. We hit a big pile of pot holes, there were three or four cars on the side of the road. The tire shop said 25 cars came in on Monday morning before they shut 101, so I'm just staying off it for a bit ;)

@palmer Car twin! (Though I can't blame the road for mine, just a plain old component failure.)

@zev FWIW, my shifter cable failed too (though not so bad I got stuck).

@palmer Yeah, for a minute I could still engage the odd-numbered gears, and thought maybe I could limp it home on just those, but then "three-speed transmission" quickly became "zero-speed transmission"...

@zev I’m kind of ashamed to say it, but I have the automatic. It saved me on the shift cable, though, as it just wouldn’t park ;)

@palmer Eh, no shame -- they're hard enough to find in reasonable shape regardless of transmission (I got pretty lucky when I found mine, and it still took 6 months or so of searching).
