If sports were portrayed in movies and TV shows they way computer stuff (especially 1337 h4x0r bullshit) is, a football player would talk about "making a lot of RBI plays that last period", and when they showed a baseball field there would be 17 guys, randomly distributed, all holding hockey sticks.

It's really one of the laziest writer paths to move a story along. They'll have some cliche "computer hacker" character claim to have hacked the target's "Smart Fridge" in order to infect his cell phone with a virus that allows remote control of the reactor where the target works.
