During the day I'm all "gender is a social construct, you can be whoever you like, your anatomy does not define you!"

But then I put on my other hat to help my local baseball association with registrar duties and go full sadpanda as I sift through questionnaires with questions like "would your daughter like to join the all-girls team?"

Sigh. And this is especially stupid for baseball, because such gender modalities like muscles and aggressiveness have almost zero impact on how good a player is, especially for younger kids.

It's the same with Girl Guides (female only) vs. Scouts (mixed) in Canada. On the one hand, I fully understand and support that sometimes girls just want to have a safe space where they can be themselves. On the other hand, this skews our numbers in Scouts towards heavily predominantly boys, perpetuating the same "boy scouts vs. girl guides" dichotomy from mid-last-century that just won't die.

And I'm not sure if we should be enforcing any kind of 50/50 ratio for our enrolment, because this means we have to turn away boys just for being boys. :/
