@SilverEagle I will give them a tiny, tiny bit of credit for actually giving you a "no thanks" button instead of "maybe later"... But no yeah that's fucked

@SilverEagle ditch windows, go *nix

Windows has been increasingly infested with undesirable "features" for years, and as such I haven't used it since about 2002

@patricus @SilverEagle nothing in particular, just something that tries to be an operating system instead of an integrated ads platform.

@uwutrash @SilverEagle that's an issue, the only OS that I can use with my sanity intact has this shit baked in.
although I can hack in and disable this all.

@patricus @SilverEagle yeah honestly, I feel you. It is hard to deny that using an operating system with going on 40 years of legacy and the world's highest market share has its perks. Going against the general mastodon sentiment, Windows is, or at least was, a good operating system. XP, 7, 10 (2015-2019) were very solid os's. But the windows design philosophy has shifted.

Microsoft as a company no longer has anything to offer us. They're riding the high of NT and have been for years, but Microsoft Windows, as a product, hasn't evolved. Windows is no longer a product, it's an onboarding tool - a means to an end. You don't buy windows anymore, you just have it. And because you (the typical end user) have it, you use the office suite because it came with your work/school. You use edge because "it's basically the same thing as chrome", and wow would you look at that edge now has a chatbot to help you bludge through your work. Fantastic!

@SilverEagle I'm going to cling to Windows 10 LTSC for as long as I can, at least for those things I can't already do on Linux. I'm looking at you, Oculus VR.
