In a time where very obvious scammers like Elon Musk can openly fail at everything, lie through their teeth and commit (alleged) fraud and get away with it, why is anybody surprised that pond scum like Sam Altman (+ credulous minions) can openly and demonstrably lie about LLMs to enrich themselves and have people believe it?
It truly is a post-truth era, and we get what we deserve.

@ohjames funny to think back to the new athiests and people imagining that 'isn't science great!' would fill that void, esp when most people's view of science = 'flashy tech products' + they have literally zero understanding of what it is or means.
People need meaning. It is critical. It is a void that must be filled. And sadly poisonous gasses sometimes fill voids too.
