  • Me in my mid 20s: MAN this OpenMoko Neo FreeRunner is almost daily drivable.
  • Me in my late 20s: This Nokia N900 is daily driveable! I hope we can get some momentum going here.
  • Me in my early 30s: This Firefox phone is daily drivable! I hope we can get some momentum going here.
  • Me in my late 30s: Maybe KDE Plasma Mobile and PostmaerketOS or Mobian will eventually become daily driveable?
  • Me in my early 40s: It's all shit isn't it? And even if it's not shit, its not going to be around for long.

@trashheap I've been through most of this, too (less N900, less SailfishOS, more Ubuntu Touch, and a lot of de-googled Android before "degoogled" was a term - I just opted to not install "gapps").

Since 2020, I have invested quite some money and time into supporting and helping out people that do their best to make it work, as it's the only way to make it happen.

@trashheap Complaining will not. Just buying hardware will not. Finding the place where one can help out, being kind when writing issues, doing what's possible to keep contributors from burnout and so on is the only way we'll ever get there, and with postmarketOS and Mobian there's no detached management that pulls the plug just as it's getting there.

@linmob @trashheap Nokia N900 was daily driver, but it was still partly proprietary, so Microsoft was able to kill it. N900 should still be usable with Maemo Leste -- it does voice calls now! :-) Today's Gnome+Phosh stack is open, so can't be killed easily. Unfortunately, today's phones are a bit too big for my liking. But Gnome on phones is going to stay... (unlike OpenMoko, N900, ...)
