I don’t know why ebooks and audiobooks have to necessarily be separate mediums. I enjoy listening to an audiobook while preoccupied with something else, but I wouldn’t mind being able to switch to the ebook - synced exactly to where I stopped listening - when I want some quiet time. At least audiobook -> ebook is doable, but going back is just a complete nightmare. If only audiobooks had a handy transcript embedded…
@maxine There's a format intended for blind people called DAISY, which can incorporate audio and text in a synchronised way. Unfortunately it's very niche and doesn't really get used by sighted people, I think.
@josh I would assume this is achievable with an embedded lrc - while it doesn’t do much for rich formatting, it would at least allow enough to timestamp paragraphs as needed.
I generally assumed the issue is licensing an ebook and audiobook are different mediums. Do you know which retailers using which formats support this?
