Who are these people who get 4,000 XP a day in Duolingo? That's, like, 2 hours a day even at at 3x bonus. 😱

@monsieuricon Huh? For me, Target Practice is 20XP, means 60XP at 3x bonus. If I assume it takes me ~1min per lesson, I'm at 1h. If I do legendaries, it's usually 3mins but 70×3=240XP, yielding 4000XP/45mins. Using things like Ramp-Up in combo can gamify the score a lot if you really want to.

In the end, I usually don't grind that hard and do something like 1000XP in 15mins, but depending on my boredness level I sometimes overdo it a bit ^^'

@ljrk oof, ok. For me it takes 2.5-3 minutes to do a lesson, and the bonuses eventually expire unless I keep throwing gems at that owl, so i can't be bothered to do over 30 min, which usually is around 1000XP.

@monsieuricon It probably factors in how "fast" you progress through the language units too, I guess? I'm rather slow there and doing lots of repetition which probably makes for faster lesson times.

Also, I don't have any idea how this is without Duolingo Premium. At least with Premium I get boosts often through friends challenges and quests, plus time based (early/late owl chest) things. I never buy boosts through gems (well, the Premium effectively did this for me, then, I guess?).

@monsieuricon Oh, another tip if you want to grind less: I'm pretty sure you're ranked into a league based on the XP you have *at time of entry* and/or rank placement when finishing the last.

So finishing top in a league means getting into a league of people who faired similarly. Also, doing a high XP thing when the league just opened places you with people who've done the same.

The best thing is to rank-up (or stay) just barely and have the daily practice done with before the league re-opens. Then, stop doing any XP on that day and do a minimum XP (say, 5XP) lesson on the very end of the next day. In my experience, you'll get ranked with people who've made 5–80 XP in the first day of the league, even when playing diamond! It's a much more sane world :-)
