Question for ppl out there:

is there any device rn that supports

- PostmarketOS
- Has *fully functioning calling*
- and has a *working* camera?

My wife said she willing to give a linux phone a try, but she isn't willing to have her phone *not be able to phone*

I would get waydroid all setup for her, setup flatpak repo and all that, but yeah, any devices that fit the bill?

She's used my op6t w/ gnome mobile and liked that, but the op6t doesnt do calling for us.

@Wendinope Murena /e OS is basically Linux.

@Wendinope Just curious what is the reasoning behind requiring postmarket os? I’ve been daily driving an FLX1 from Furilabs and pretty impressed with all it can do.

@Wendinope Awesome that y'all are trying this! For camera *and* calling I would recommend the Google Pixel 3a (https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Google_Pixel_3a_(google-sargo)).

From what you said it sounds like your calling issue is VoLTE related, which recently got fixed with the 3a. The camera also started working recently, so that is probably perfect for y'all.

That said, you probably already know this but the calling and camera probably won't be perfect, so if y'all care about that then just check you care about works irl.

@mpanhans Just bc it's actually *true* linux, whereas w/ the FLX1, it leverages libhybris an hallium, which is cool, but not really *a true linux phone*, imho, ya know?

And I just like pmos, they have gnome-mobile available for images, and seems really stable so far on my 6t. tho I do wish we had systemd

@justsoup Yeah, the 3a is what I was thinking would be best too, the 'partial' label worries me a lil for the calling, which is why im askin abt better, may end up going with it anyways

@Wendinope I see, yeah I think it is all about trade offs, and right now for me the FLX1 is hitting the right balance. But I actually have a used P3a in a drawer, given all the recent progress they’ve been making, I might give pmOS a spin soon.

@Wendinope I am pretty sure the partial label is only because of volte. Might be something else though? I am not a 3a maintainer.

@Wendinope I don't know if you've heard this or not, but if not, postmarketOS is working on systemd support.

@Wendinope @justsoup I picked up a Pixel 3A when camera support got added. It's awesome that it works, but it's nowhere near the quality you get in Android yet. I couldn't get autofocus to work so the pictures were only in focus a few inches from the camera. It looks like the camera had some stuck pixels that were always bright green. Exposure was also lacking. I will update to the latest edge and see if anything's changed there.

@Wendinope @justsoup Here are two sample photos taken with the Snapshot app on up to date pmOS Edge:

@Wendinope PinePhone, Librem 5 match the requirements. Research PinePhone, but CPUs are quite slow.

@pavel I already own a pinephone, and pro (developer edition :3) and don't care for them, and the librem 5 / anything from purism isn't an option, i'm not a rich person.

@Wendinope Librem 5 has too short battery life for normal use. Original PinePhone closest to your requirements :-(.
