Major Hayden 🤠

I took the plunge and switched the primary language on my phone to Spanish. This should kick my learning into a higher gear. 😉

@major I'm going to be a voice of dissent and will say that, from my experience, this isn't very effective as an immersion strategy and just leads to subconsciously associating the language you're learning with frustration. I found reading children's books aimed at younger readers to be the best way to build vocabulary and get familiar with sentence structures and common turns of phrase. But, YMMV. :)

@major in my experience the best approach is to listen to podcasts. For me it trains my listening skills, makes me learn new words / phrases and even improves my speaking, since I learn more about how the words are pronounced correctly.

@monsieuricon I can see that. I just get amused at some of the word usages I see around technology. So far it's still amusing.

@javierm That's on my list but I have a pile of audiobooks to finish first.

@javierm @major I think that's easier with videos than with podcasts due to the availability of captions.

@rvr @major IMO the fact that podcast is an audio only medium is precisely what makes it so good to learn new languages.
