What's to stop Musk, who's already tried meddling with German elections, from seizing Zelenskyy's, or any other European leader's X account, and posting something with dire geopolitical consequences? We're way past the point where it's wise for European leaders and institutions to rely on a presence on Xβ€”and other US platforms are not a good long-term solution either. More should follow the example of the @EUCommission and provide their updates directly, without middlemen, through the fediverse.

@Gargron @EUCommission

Perhaps Mastodon should not use a US Hosting Provider.

@Gargron @EUCommission Actually, we should start doing end-to-end security. GPG-signed email to the list is more trustworhy than post on the social media, exactly because of the GPG signature. I guess people could do GPG-signed posts in the fediverse, but signatures are still more common in the email :-).

@Gargron

It would be good if Mastodon stop using US provider for hosting.

@Linux @Gargron what do you mean by mastodon, joinmastodon.com? mastodon.social? Mastodon as a whole of course is spread all over, IIRC some stats site said majority of the instances are located in europe.

@NetscapeNavigator

Last time I checked it was en European provider, and that was two month ago.

So you should provide evidence to your claim.
