I really really hate to say it, but vlc is pretty terrible these days.

I understand and appreciate open source software (until turning pro recently I put 100's of hours of unpaid time into contributing to open source), but we also have to be honest.

It fails to play a bunch of videos, rips I've made from blurays etc. are washed out, nobody's sure how to _definitely_ fix it, it stutters, full screen flickers, etc. etc.

Install mpv, play a vid, everything perfect.

What's going on with vlc?

@ljs @vbabka bvlcfs, the wow player for linux that won't eat your movies

@ljs I use it mainly because it has best working ChromeCast support from all open source players I've tried, not by a choice ;-) If I watch "locally at desk" I always use mpv.
