f-35 fighter jets, especially those in foreign countries, require regular updates from a centralized database
wait, so… youre saying that fighter jets basically have always-online DRM controlled by the US?
@ashten “Ohno my fighter jet lost connection and just bricked itself mid air”
@ChaosKitsune it sounds like it only needs to happen once every 2-3 weeks
but… that just means that if the US and EU get into a war, the EU would have to win within 3 weeks
@ashten and pray that the us cant send a kill signal before then which is possible that they have it.
uhh guess its time to start rooting the fighter jets
@ChaosKitsune @ashten They don’t need a kill switch, the jet just becomes vastly less useful without US software support (even with mention of “cloud”), one example I learned about yesterday is feeding intelligence information to the on-board computer. Like information of location and characteristics of enemy air defenses. Which, y’know, is kind of important for keeping the pilot alive and jet intact and able to complete their tasks, even if they are technically still able to fly and shoot without that information.
@ChaosKitsune @ashten Not enough, those things change after all… You need the tools to make and install your own updates.
@ChaosKitsune @ashten Why do I have to think of the infamous War Thunder forums now?
@ChaosKitsune @ashten Simulator training is standard for pilots (civilian and military), so why not for other vehicles?
@airtower @ChaosKitsune @ashten They also already do it for infantry. Look up “Schießkino”.
@airtower @ChaosKitsune @ashten This is one of the many reasons why the EU is pushing for a huge expansion in the militar funding, after the Trump administration went into the white house. The EU has their own fighter, the EuroFighter, which obviously doesnt depend on the US. They just need to produce more. Some countries also have their own national fighters as well, of course.
