Can, should the step in with filling the gap left behind by & ?

Sure: this is clearly for the public good, and plays nicely with the work on etc.

A key problem is the sheer velocity: destruction via tyranny&fascism is fast, building up structures via democratic processes relatively slow.

The EU needs a Fast Track Program to respond to the chaos of the US. The time is ... yesterday.

@eckes The UN is an interesting choice, but would move even slower than the EU (and be hampered by the weight of the US & China & Russia on their councils), and isn't exactly known as an IT/"cyber security" actor.

Ideally, yes, a lot of these things would be handled democratically and globally both. Looking at the state of the real world tho ...

@larsmb The EU is already doing this, as part of the CRA, the tender for the system implementation went out a few months ago for companies to bid on, so it's already in the works. So it was planned for already, just implementation might take a bit longer than "tomorrow" :)

@gregkh Nice! And yes, very cool, the pure velocity of how things are eroding is making it hard to put the new systems into place though.

"Move fast and break things" was supposed to be for experimentation, not prod ...
