@Liberux You want โ‚ฌ1300 for essentially a 32gb orange pi 5 with a screen and battery.

Dream on.

@Liberux
I was really interested, but 1300โ‚ฌ is just a bit to much for me.

1

@killed2 same for me... but tbh, the device is just this expensive in development and production, imho. It can be compared with the Reform Next just in Smartphone shape. I will stick with my Reform and Librem 5 for now...

@scops @killed2 The raw hardware alone costs over โ‚ฌ600. With Liberux, our goal is to provide the best support possible and ensure ongoing software development. Your backing helps us grow the team, improve the platform, and reach new audiences in the future.

@KitsuneVixi This isnโ€™t just a board with a screen. Itโ€™s a fully custom-designed device, built from scratch with optimized software, power management, and privacy features like hardware kill-switches. The raw component cost alone is already over triple that of a basic SBC โ€” not to mention the months of work from a small, dedicated team.

We're not just selling hardware โ€” we're building an open, privacy-focused platform and community.

@Liberux Well, I'll find out for myself when it's open source and I try building my own.

@Liberux I think you can compare the Nexx with an iPhone 16 or higher, if that already existed. That's why I think the price is okay. Although I also think that 1300 is a lot of money for a smartphone.

I would also like it if you could connect a monitor via the USB port, so you don't need the W-Dock. I would also like to see NFC.

@Svenauskr @Liberux

Im wondereing, that there is no nfc?
such a tech, is really important for a Phone...

@Svenauskr @windy_hill Hi! Some specs are still under evaluation, and NFC is one of them.
Weโ€™re very interested in including it, but we canโ€™t confirm it yet.
The good news is: if NFC gets added later, all units will be upgradable โ€” weโ€™re designing with flexibility and long-term support in mind. Thanks for your interest and feedback!

@Liberux Why no HDMI OUT? So I can't use any docking station. Wireless monitor connection is laggy and unstable.

1
0
0

@decorum @Liberux I guess via usb-c there will be a display port alt mode like on the librem5 and pinephone? A hdmi port would make the phone very chunky for daily use on the street

2

@max @Liberux I mean HDMI OUT over USB-C. Like the Fairphone 4 has. A very important function if you want to attach a docking station. So you can use the external screen over the cable.

@Liberux Will LiberuxOS use Halium or a mainline kernel? Or rather, how well supported do you expect a mainline kernel to be on this hardware?

Fyi you have the โ€œOther ways you can helpโ€ section repeated twice at the end.

1

@timorl It'll be native Linux, no Halium. ๐Ÿ˜Š

@Liberux

Alright, I thought about it for a while and have backed it.

Really excited about this project, looking forward to finally having a powerful Linux phone.

Do you already have someone who will deal with the CE and FCC certifications?

1

@ryol Thank you so much for backing us โ€” it truly means a lot! ๐Ÿ™Œ We're just as excited to bring a powerful Linux phone to life.

Yes, we've already taken certifications into account. We're preparing everything needed for CE and FCC compliance, so we're ready when the time comes.

@Liberux I just crowdfunded one :-) Still hoping for community interaction like postmarketos / mobian, a slot for opengpg or some other easy way to unlock the LUKS card and ofc a lot of success to the project!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

@max

Thank you so much for backing us! ๐Ÿ˜Š We're absolutely aligned โ€” community collaboration is at the heart of this project. We'd love to see integrations with postmarketOS, Mobian, and more.

Secure LUKS unlock (including GPG-based flows) is definitely on our radar. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Thanks again for the support and kind wishes โ€” letโ€™s build this together! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’ป

@Liberux Also, I've got some questions if you don't mind:
- Does it run U-Boot / Towboot or something? I don't want to run Debian, ideally I'd like to run NixOS, and assuming the drivers are FOSS and it runs U-Boot / Towboot or something, this shouldn't be too hard.
- What are the physical dimensions of the device? I couldn't find the width on the IndieGoGo.
- Does it do quick charge and everything, so I don't have to wait around ages for it to charge?
- Is there a fingerprint sensor? I see something on the back, but I'm not sure if its a sensor.
- I think I see theres a case on the phone in the images? Does that come with the phone?

Thanks!

@QuadRadical Apologies for the delay in replying โ€” weโ€™ve been getting a lot of messages through various channels

โœ… Yes, it runs U-Boot.

๐Ÿ“ For now the approximate dimensions are 154 mm (H) ร— 71 mm (W) ร— 10 mm (D).

โšก Yes, it supports fast charging, and weโ€™re including a fast charger right in the box.

๐Ÿ”’ That is a fingerprint sensor on the back.

๐Ÿ“ฑ We havenโ€™t designed an official case yet, but itโ€™s on our roadmap.

Hopefully weโ€™ll see you onboard soon! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’™

@Liberux does it require a dock for desktop mode or is video out supported over usb-c?

1

0

@dubstar_04 The video out will be supported over USB-C. So youโ€™ll be able to connect directly to an external display for desktop mode. ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธโœจ

0

0

@QuadRadical @max @decorum Yes, the USB-C video out will definitely be supported for direct connection to external displays.

The included dock is designed for wireless connectivity.

So, you can use USB-C directly for video out, or the W-dock.

@Liberux competitors in the same arena (Linux phones, similar or equal processor) come with a way lower (less than half) price point. What are the differences from the competition to justify such a price? I read the email and page, but I don't see them

1
0
0

@fale @Liberux which competitor devices have similar specs?

1
0
0

@dubstar_04 @Liberux https://pine64.com/product/pinephone-pro-explorer-edition/ is based on RK3399, but for less than a third of the price. https://furilabs.com/shop/flx1/ is at less than half the price with a mediatek. I'm not endorsing any of those but those are buyable today for way cheaper!

1
0
0

@fale @Liberux neither of those devices are comparable. pinephone pro is nowhere near on specs and has no software support. The furiphone is closer on specs but is halium based.

1

0

@dubstar_04 @Liberux How can you be sure about Libelux software support, since the first devices will ship in 1 year? My point is not that those two I listed are good options, but just that Libelux proposal is not clearly a winning one

1
0
0

@fale @Liberux The liberux crowdfunding pages states they are providing an os and driver support however I can't be sure about software support, that's the risk with crowdfunding. But the pinephone device has no software support from the vendor, therefore you're paying significantly less however the device is not usable as a daily driver.

1

0

@dubstar_04 @fale A big part of the Liberux project is focused on software development to ensure the device is stable and truly usable as a daily driver.

Weโ€™re committed to reinvesting all funds raised back into development.

Our goal is to deliver a polished, reliable experience for our users.

@Liberux
"Liberux NEXX is now live on crowdfunding!"
What is the consumer price?
Do you also take back old phones for recycling? Are they really recycled? Proof?
Can I restore my I-phone data in a quick&easy way on the Liberux Nexx?
If you want to sell: please give more information. Also for dummies.

@Liberux Does it support NFC? I can't find NFC in the specs but I don't know an alternative name for NFC, so, I can missed a thing.

Thanks a lot. It sounds really interesting. But, it got a high price tag.

even i was expecting lower price. if 1300 euros is price for final product, i think it is serious hindrance for adoption.

@zvhxxl
Thanks for your interest and all the questions! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Price: You can find all current pricing on our crowdfunding page.

Old phone recycling: We do not offer a take-back or recycling program for old phones. โ™ป๏ธ

Restoring data: This is definitely a complex area, but weโ€™ll be working on ways to make data migration as smooth as possible. ๐Ÿ”„

More information for everyone: Weโ€™re planning to release more content, FAQs, and guides that explain the device and features in simple terms. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ“˜

1

@anothermastodonuser We're working to ensure the device stays cool during normal use to avoid those issues. It's true that, to achieve proper cooling, the Nexx will be slightly thicker than a typical phone โ€” but nothing extreme.

@Liberux
It all sounds pretty good and may well be worth the price if everything works out as promised and no major unforeseen issues appear down the road. That's a big if though. I'm looking forward for user experience reports in 2026.

@rolandlo Weโ€™re doing everything we can to deliver on what we promise, and transparency is key for us. Thanks for keeping an eye on it โ€” we hope to impress you by 2026! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ“ฑ

@Liberux Thank you for your reply. NFC is an important feature for me to be able to use my ID card and my Yubikey.

Is there also hope for an upgrade to newer standards for Wifi and Bluetooth?

1

@funqr Yes, thereโ€™s definitely hope! Weโ€™re actively exploring options to support newer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards โ€” itโ€™s something weโ€™d love to offer.

@zetabeta We totally understand โ€” small-scale production really drives up the cost. But we're doing everything we can to make it worth it. We still hope to have you on board!

๐Ÿ“ฃ is now live on crowdfunding! ๐Ÿš€

Hope your crowdfunding have success, really hope one day you could sell totally
I will follow this project ! Good luck !

@francks Muchas gracias for your kind message and support! ๐ŸŒŸ Weโ€™re glad you appreciate our effort to be transparent and committed to open source. We truly hope to offer fully free hardware one day. In the meantime, weโ€™d love to have you as part of our user community! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿง

@Liberux Just called via phone golem.de about this. I also wrote to heise.de. I invite everyone to get the word of this campaign out to whatever news page you read. It shouldn't be to hard to hit 1k devices and once this is done I remember from the librem5 campaign that the contributors continued rising until nearly 4k devices.

@max A thousand thanks, Max โ€” from the entire Liberux team! ๐Ÿ™Œ It's truly a joy to have people like you supporting this project. We really hope to find that kind of success and see it spreading across media platforms. Your help means the world to us! ๐Ÿ’œ

@Liberux I don't suppose the physical dimensions of the device been blocked out yet? Cause I wouldn't mind attempting to build a protective case for it using 3D prints. I've made some designs for my own Librem 5 but this would be fun to try out.

1

@Shredd_Tone
there are some approximate dimensions, but they are not closed yet.

1

@Liberux Okay, I've got one more question before I buy:

Will any drivers be upstreamed to the Linux kernel? You won't support this device forever, so I want to know the drivers will go somewhere, not just get stale on some custom kernel fork.

It's a lot of money for a phone that could theoretically not be getting kernel updates in a few years.

Thanks!

1

@Liberux Hi, any idea about this? I'd like to get one tonight, but I'd love to know this first.

1

0

@QuadRadical
Our intention is to upstream as much of our work as possible to the mainline Linux kernel. Weโ€™re committed to publishing everything we can and ensuring that others in the community can support the device in their own systems too.

There are still a few technical uncertainties, and realistically not every driver may be open or accepted upstream โ€” but our commitment to transparency and long-term sustainability is real.

@Liberux Will this be available/usable in the US? Most European companies in this space (Fairphone, SHIFT, Jolla, Volla) only make products for the EU, so it would be worth calling out which countries you're supporting if you're planning to ship globally and not just to the EU.

1

@dascwo
Yes, it will be supported. We'll share more details as we progress.

@Liberux
So Liberux is only a new brand, a buzzword.
No new policy on recycling or repair. Just throw-away and more polution.
Nothing new or improvement on transfering and restoring data. Throw away all your photo's when you buy a Liberux phone.
No production in EU or US. Only Chinese slave labour.
Only advantage: operating system is Linux, open source. But that advantage is only for professional users.

I'll wait for something really really new. For now my refurbished iphone will do.

@Liberux Alright, I shall tryout a mockup before there comes the official design twilightsmile

@zvhxxl
Looks like we had a bit of a crossed wire โ€” since English isnโ€™t my native language, I may have misunderstood your question.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Weโ€™re not planning to recycle phones from other brands. We simply donโ€™t have the infrastructure or expertise for that.

๐Ÿ’พ About your photos: You can use a microSD card and move all your memories to the Liberux NEXX.

๐Ÿ”ง The phone is modular, repairable, and built to last. And yes โ€” we produce it in Spain, from the boards to the final assembly.

@Liberux @QuadRadical "Not every driver may be open"? That's quite a big red flag. Even Android folk follow GPL and publish driver sources. You know... it is not optional.

@Liberux Really hope you'll offered on your devices one day.

Waiting for that, some of us hack pc's to run as on (work in progress for gnuboot) or and (these two have certif from ).

Very nice to you to reply to each one of us - and - to launch a more affordable version of on your crowdfunding.

I believe that future if any, will stop what in our concepts produce fragmentation.

@francks Thanks for your message and for supporting free hardware and software!

Free hardware is a goal we share and strive for, even if itโ€™s a tough path. Meanwhile, weโ€™re committed to openness, repairability, and user control.

@Liberux
I have questions about connectivity:

On the IGG page, a 5G modem is listed as an upgrade - is that upgrade selectable directly when backing, or at a later stage?

Does/Will the phone/modem support eSIM?

Finally, I assume the phone will be able to support USB-tethering to provide internet access to a connected computer - is that correct?

1
0
0

@dertseha Thanks for the questions! Here are some quick answers:

5G Modem Upgrade: Yes, it's available when you back the project. If you choose the Complete version, the 5G modem is included by default.

eSIM Support: Yes, the 5G modem does support eSIM.

USB Tethering: Yes, the phone will support USB tethering to share its internet connection with a connected computer.

Let us know if you have more questions โ€” we're happy to clarify!

@eliasr @Liberux Super early. More ambitious than Librem 5's original plans.

1

@dos ok, yes that I guess could be seen as one of the main lessons than can be learned from the Librem 5 project: don't go out and say that things are expected to be done before a certain date. Because things will take longer than you expected and then people will be angry because they think you broke your promises (even if you try to say it was not really a promise, that does not help, people still get angry). @Liberux

The kill switches physically cut power to the components โ€” no software involved. They're real hardware cut-outs ๐Ÿ”’๐Ÿ”Œ
