10% of people regret having children
I think we should at least have a 10 year waiting list before you are legally allowed to have kids and you will be subject to interrogations and an awful system that tells you to try EVERYTHING else before that. Gotta make sure
@ChaosKitsune yup, there’s also the double standard with adoption, where all kinds of these checks are done to ensure the wellbeing of the minor whereas in having kids oneself is a “we won’t interfere” situation
@josep oh yeah thats so dumb. Pick a side. While I think it’s good someone checks u have the ability and capability to parent and aren’t abusive and stuff the adoption process seems too much from what I hear. And having a kid.. Yeah nobody checks anything
@ChaosKitsune @josep Unless you’re in a non-hetero marriage and have to adopt the child your partner gave birth to so they’re legally considered your child. Seriously, Germany automatically assumes that if a woman gives birth and has a husband, he is the father (unless either parent contests that). If she has a wife, that’s a no. And if anyone involved is trans, good luck getting their actual name on the birth certificate, and AFAIK the person giving birth will be listed as “mother” whether they’re a woman or not.
@pavel @ChaosKitsune @josep No. “Mother” implies “woman”, so when used for any person who gives birth and is not a woman is denying their actual gender in favor of whatever view the speaker holds of what it “really” is, which is the quintessential thing of transphobia (any violence, insults, etc. serve to enforce that). Any person is the gender or lack thereof they say they are, no exceptions.
I’m not saying it’s wrong to record who gave birth, that may be important for the child to know. But it probably shouldn’t be on a standard birth certificate, when e.g. registering a child for school it doesn’t matter and might out a parent as trans. And if the law (written assuming cis-het marriage) automatically assumes “if a woman gives birth her husband is the father” the claim it was about actual ancestry is absurd anyway.
