AI really is like a slot machine. once you get used to trusting it you'll continue doing so despite mounting evidence that it's not helping you.
"just one more prompt". "i just need to get better at this". "i'll try another model". "just wait to the next model it's gonna be even better".
the magical chatbot that actually does everything you ask it to is just around the corner. and if literally 3 out of 3 results from your latest prompt were fake, it's probably you who did something wrong.
there's been several proposed etiquettes for AI, and while i like the "keep it between you and the computer, that was very rude" approach, i think treating it like gambling is also a great option.
"wait you gamble? well i hope you only do it between friends or when you're okay with losing $100 in Vegas, right? you're not actually putting anything real into it, right?"
