Oh why the hell does the X240 only have one RAM slot

Anyway my X200 and L450 have been upgraded to 8 gigs. Rotschild ass laptops. (DDR3 may be too slow for AI, so uninteresting to Altman; also flea modules with flea chances, I should memtest that really)

I have enough modules here to up the X201 as well. But I'd have to stop being on fedi and walk to it. Effort.

@ozzelot
240 to 270 have a single ram slot, 280 and afterwards have soldered ram and have worse battery life than earlier machines.

LENOVO!

@void (MacBooks did worse after their own X230 equivalent, the 2012 nonretina Pro... something happened to the world post Ivy Bridge.)

@void My own X240 is also missing its internal battery. I will not be putting in a new one.

I have HP ProBook 430 G1 — it's Haswell and it has two easily accessible (two "normal" screws) DDR3 slots, SATA and M.2 slot, 3 full-size (USB-A) ports, wired Ethernet, VGA and HDMI outputs.

I read some reviews contemporary to this machine and it was considered really bad at the time, but nowadays I look at it and I'm really impressed by this smol conpooter — so versatile, so extensible! And you can disassemble it completely having only 1 (!) screwdriver.
According to their laptop wiki, it plays nicely with FreeBSD too — but I'm yet to try it.

@ozzelot @void I prefer Thinkpad X220 to X230. I can exchange :-).

@pavel @void ...and only one X230, that I would like to keep.

They passed their memtests, as did the X240 with its stock 4GB. Proud of them.

(Yes, I was setting up PXELINUX to memtest 3 laptops. I'll boot more stuff eventually though.)

@ozzelot Nah, you don't have to walk at all. Expand the memory over the net! I'm aware of machines where this would be faster than local swapping anyway :)
