The RAID6 array is rebuilding, but it will be a whiiiiiile. And, of course, there's always the chance that another drive will decide to give up the ghost while the rebuild is going ahead and we'll be up a creek.

@monsieuricon i'm going to be that backseat driver, but i have to ask: i assume you're rebuilding it one parity drive at a time? i've always wondered, in those cases, what's safer...

@Anarcat So, everything got super complicated because these are LVM RAID6 with LVM Cache, and lvm REALLY REALLY hated a lot of things I tried to do because of that caching layer. At some point I was pretty sure I lost all 50TB of data (we do have a copy of it on that other system), but it was pretty terrifying. At this stage, it's rebuilding with both replacement drives and I'm trying not to breathe too hard in its direction.

@monsieuricon i already disliked the LVM cache layers with a passion (talk about a UX failure), now i feel less lonely

@Anarcat It works great when it works.

@monsieuricon and then you have a failure and have no idea how the heck it works :p but yes, some servers we didn't have a choice... i much prefer the ZFS interface for that, so much cleaner...

@Anarcat Next, you'll suggest that we switch to Debian or something. ;)

@monsieuricon WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T RUN DEBIAN! /me runs away screaming in a flamewar ;)

@monsieuricon not that debian has any meaningful (binary) support for zfs anyways

@Anarcat I also use vim and prefer spaces over tabs.

@monsieuricon i can allow vim but not tabs, so that's okay, even though i use emacs ;)
