Well, it's (medium) *hard science* fiction, not *social science* fiction π€£
To me, it's a really good book that mostly aligns with physics (taking some liberties with engineering assumptions, as usual), but brings a good story with a lot of optimism into the mix. The audiobook narrated by Ray Porter is *great* in its nuanced voice, and has a number of actual LOL moments. Haven't seen the movie yet, though. Going by the movie version of The Martian, I'll probably be disappointed.
