I've followed the war events almost every night for past 1.5 years and all I can say is that I'm glad Finland is not up against the world's most modern military might.

@penguin42 drone program, and the turnover time of its R&D and data analysis and collection. I'd really like to know how the drones tell each other who they are and how the whole "machine identity" works overall in that platform.
Russia will loose because they are 2-3 generations behind in the R&D cycle of drones. As long as Ukraine can maintain their agility. I believe they can and will win the whole war. I believe Ukraine has a strong chance to get borders back to 2013, which is IMHO only acceptable end game.
Ukraine has e.g., established drone factories to US in some states, and they are already consulting in other crisis territories. Letting Russia to win is like.... impossible. They would win also the drone tech race.
Other than drones, here is this one military expert guy "Jason Jay Smart" who I like to watch from YouTube. That's about it :-) Things started to really accelerate circa late February while in US ICE was being productive and shooting US citizens.

@penguin42 I'm also a 3rd generation refugee from invaded Karelia, so somehow this gets into feelings. I mean even tho I'm Finnish for sure, I don't really have any place in Finland where I would feel "here' s my history". I'm more like monad I guess i.e., I live in a random country, and have an apartment in random town/city but I don't feel any connection to "a place".

@penguin42 I don't want those areas back from Russia. I mean I've never lived there either :D And we're better off that whoever lives at the Laatokka lake today continues to live there. Still this sort of multi-generational suffering somehow touches me :D

penguin42@mastodon.org.uk@jarkko Yeh their drone advances are going well - but Russia is still making a mess and they've got some high end missiles, and Russia really doesn't give a damn about their own citizens; I'm not that sure the Russians imported Iranian drones are that behind? And the Russians are still nibbling away at the Donetsk stuff, so it's still not great.

@penguin42 I don't think there is a country in the world who has the kind of innovation ecosystem for quickly building new types of disposable drone, drone boats and whatnot. And it's quite rare actually that US wants weapon manufacturers to expand to their soil, or at least it is quite uncommon.

@penguin42 And I have to give one up for Elon: during the most of the time, despite X-room-talks, he has been fairly co-operative overall; especially how his company Starlink has operated in the war zone during last few months.
