I absolutely love that my kid's school website is down the day I decide to go and buy her school supplies.

It's still absolutely wild to me that the parents have to go and source all the school exercise books, folders, and enough classroom supplies for 30 kids but for just one kid, instead of giving the same money over to the school to buy in bulk (and get actual discounts, rather than parents paying the middle-man tax and transport tax).

It's such a wasteful system. In the UK in the 90s, you just had to make sure your kid had enough pens, pencils, erasers, to fill a small pencil case, and maybe a pack of crayons if there wasn't classroom boxes for sharing.

I don't believe it is a covid-era thing either, because if the teacher is collecting exercise books for marking, they're all going to touch and be contaminated anyway?

It just seems like a convoluted way of getting people to spend more money during a time when people don't have any.

@Teaceratops it existed pre-Covid as well. It used to be even more wild -- we'd all be told to go to a single small store in Vaudreuil and get all the supplies in person if we wanted to get the exact right things and get a 15% discount.

@monsieuricon that's crazy! Why on earth would that be a school board's method of choice, rather than sending the correct things directly to the schools? It feels genuinely backwards. I'm sorry you guys had to put up with that!
