How to backup audio shenanigans like skins presets and shit?

This how I do it in macOS:

$ cat audio-dirs.txt
Library/Application Support/Sonic Academy/
Library/Application Support/u-he/
Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/
Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records/
Users/jarkko/Documents/FabFilter/
Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/com.xfer.serum2/
Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/com.xferrecords.serum/
Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/FabFilter/
Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/Sonic Academy/
Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/ToguAudioLine/
Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/u-he/
Users/jarkko/Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/
Users/jarkko/Library/Preferences/com.fabfilter.*.plist
Users/jarkko/Library/Preferences/Serum2Prefs.json
Users/jarkko/Library/Preferences/SerumPrefs.json

$ tar -cvjpf audio-dirs-$(date +%F).tar.bz2 -T audio-dirs.txt

Note: fabfilter line was shortened for the post i.e., it needs to be expanded into concrete paths.

I’m leveling up to restic at some point as it allows e.g. globs :-) I’ve been testing it but for the time being I still use plain tarballs.

This is how it can be achieved:

~ main
$ restic init -r ~/MEGA/restic/kanttarelli.local --password-command 'pass restic/kanttarelli.local'
created restic repository 6731fcae6f at /Users/jarkko/MEGA/restic/kanttarelli.local

Please note that knowledge of your password is required to access
the repository. Losing your password means that your data is
irrecoverably lost.
~ main
$ cat MEGA/Documents/restic/kanttarelli.local.txt | tail
/Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/com.xfer.serum2/
/Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/com.xferrecords.serum/
/Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/FabFilter/
/Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/Sonic Academy/
/Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/ToguAudioLine/
/Users/jarkko/Library/Application Support/u-he/
/Users/jarkko/Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/
/Users/jarkko/Library/Preferences/com.fabfilter.*.plist
/Users/jarkko/Library/Preferences/Serum2Prefs.json
/Users/jarkko/Library/Preferences/SerumPrefs.json
~ main
$ restic backup -r ~/MEGA/restic/kanttarelli.local --password-command 'pass restic/kanttarelli.local' --files-from ~/MEGA/Documents/restic/kanttarelli.local.txt
repository 6731fcae opened (version 2, compression level auto)
created new cache in /Users/jarkko/Library/Caches/restic
no parent snapshot found, will read all files

Added to the repository: 11.565 GiB (9.878 GiB stored)

Not in production use so have not even tried yet restore part :-)

Restore goes like this (just tried):

$ restic restore --dry-run=true -r ~/MEGA/restic/kanttarelli.local --password-command 'pass restic/kanttarelli.local' --target / f3cffa47

There’s also RESTIC_REPOSITORY, RESTIC_PASSWORD_COMMAND and similar environment variables available for convenience.
