Just found out that my "Pixel 5a" actually isn't so much "5a", just "Pixel 5" -- which explains the conspicuous absence of security updates since last November.

I want all my phones to display "this device is no longer receiving security updates," whenever this happens in the future, thank you.

/me throws more money at Google for a Pixel 8, which just happens to be on sale right now.

Maybe @postmarketOS folks would be happy to help you out too :)

@Logical_Error @postmarketOS Nah, this is too much work and the battery life on it is no good for more than just occasional use. I'll trade it in and hopefully it finds a new life.

@monsieuricon
Why not buy a used one at least? I see no reason to even support Google for such a bad behavior.

@monsieuricon there used to be pretty good deals on the 6 and 7 shortly after launching the next version, seemed to be selling off old stock. I got my 7 two years after my 6 for next to nothing (2 year commitment on my current plan), tried to get my dad to get the same deal and it appeared they were done. Now I'm confused as the 7 is back at an insane price (not sure where you found it on sale...)

@monsieuricon actually you said the 8 is on sale, indeed it didn't seem to be far off the price of 7, but the 7 was basically free a few months back!
