Any Fitbit-style pulse trackers out there that are

1. easy to use
2. not a total privacy shitshow?

Recommendations, please. 🙏 (boosts welcome)

@slothrop Yes, but it requires some work. I use Amazfit Band 7 with Gadgetbridge. By itself, Amazfit is a total privacy-violating shit show, as you say, but if you're not using their app, then you get a capable wrist device and a privacy-respecting free software phone app to use it.

I don't think any such thing exists.

Closest I'm aware of is Pine's open smart watch:

I doubt it's easy to use, but it is at least not reporting everything back to MegaCorp every time you're in wifi.

@neil @slothrop

That's good to know.

What format is this data in? I'm sure I personally would prefer a json blob or something but "easy to use" implies that there ought to be something to import it into?

Is there also some app for using that data and comparing it week to week or anything like that?

Well I ordered one, so I guess I'll find out.

Probably should have done so ages ago.

Doubt it'll be easy enough for my mum still. She has asked occasionally, but doesn't want the spying either so there ain't one I could get her.

@neil

Nice.

Do you actually use it for looking at your heart-rate? Not really sure I wanna know.
