Kaiser Permanente in #oregon is more than happy to sell you an insurance policy and collect your money, but then they make it impossible to actually schedule appointments for anything. It seems like they make it difficult on purpose. How is this legal??
@pavel categories.clevergoat.com Yes, that. The whole profit model of an HMO is to provide as little care as they can. Not sending patients to doctors is just one part. Making doctors spend unpaid time on insurance issues (see, "prior auths") is another. Potential patients are the main source of income, so HMOs have a vested interest in not letting too many die, except the ones with conditions that are expensive to treat.
