Musicians don't buy Apple hardware because of the brand. The problem is really PC manufacturers and ther zero investment to grounded audio ports and decent quality dacs etc :-) There is no "PC option" for music IMHO.

Now jokes aside, didn't windows fix their audio story a while ago with that separate audio stack used only for professional audio production software/hardware?

@zygoon Well, in the sense that you can connect MacBook Pro to a big sound system without external audio interface and usually will not blow your ears.

Not a pro audio engineer but I have experience in the field :-)

@zygoon no over RCA. that makes it amazing. afaik, neo does not have the same quality as pro's but on the other hand it is a phone level hardware.

@jarkko ah, TIL I guess. I don't do music but I do connect an audio interface over usb-c to a computer and it does do static noise stuff on boot (PC). Having said that I think it also does that from MacOS so maybe it's just bad in general? The cables between the interface and speakers are balanced.

@zygoon OK, so one obvious: try external power source for the sound card.

For USB powered devices, split cables do exist.

@jarkko I wanted to but I'm not sure where the power brick is after I moved offices :-)

I may look for a split power cable and see if I can power it off a power bank.

@zygoon This is at least one upside of AI for me personally: it got me into working with music first time in few years. Really helps with distancing away from those topics ;-) AI debates are like guaranteed bad vibes if you pay too much attention to that nonsense.

@jarkko I bought a brand new acoustic piano but then ran out of time due to work and life interfering. I love that instrument so much.
