If you know any gullible reform types then you can tell them that the UK government plans to turn their electricity down 8)

(Actually it's a bit more complex - going to the full EU range makes managing stuff like renewable feed-in much more manageable. That should let people export more).

@etchedpixels You do realise that'll show up in the feral British press as: "Another Starmer betrayal as he prepares to change our electricity to kowtow to the EU", don't you?

@etchedpixels the technical arguments re. behind the meter efficiency are surprising to me. They mention an attached report but I didn't see it. In any case, they say the power demand drops 1% for 1% voltage, which seems to point at efficiency of appliances which convert voltages down. Fix those instead? I also wonder if they've looked at the impact of increasing the max current draw for the same power, increases in copper losses and increased risk of fire via house wiring & switches.

@jmorris @etchedpixels it's here https://www.energynetworks.org/publications/statutory-voltage-limits-technical-report . Section 2.5 contains the discussion on distribution losses, skimming it makes me think I don't know how transformers actually work...

@jmorris @etchedpixels ah, I guess that explains why they can't find those references ;)
