(stolen picture, ofc)

so again this amazing thing, in czechia trolleybuses are legally kind of a railway vehicle (they are licensed by a thing called railway administration) so they don't have license plates, even if operated on batteries just as a normal bus, it's really funny

@pony lol

here it’s kinda a separate category of road vehicles, but still governed by road stuff

why did they even decide that it should be a railway vehicle? some tram stuff?

@ignaloidas well don't confuse this with traffic rules, in which case, it's really just a bus (even under wires), however, a trolleybus system is seen as a "railway"[1] operation, there needs to be an operator for the entire infrastructure and trolleybuses are seen as part of it

[1] that's not really a great translation, the actual word is dráha, more like a "bahn" or "track"

@ignaloidas with roads, there is one road system and one office that issues licenses for vehicles and drivers, you get your papers, license plate for your car and you can drive on all roads under same rules, your city can't invent entire own signage different from the rest of the country or stuff like that, however, with trolleybuses, this is broken down per system, trolleybuses in Brno are not operated by the same rules as the ones in Ostrava and the access to the system is not open to public, you cannot buy your own trolleybus and just drive it around with a paper from one national office

@ignaloidas this is actually not really a good thing in reality because it makes approval process for new vehicles and lines more complicated and expensive than with buses
