I know that people say wayland is the future and nobody cares about X yada yada, but it is pretty frustrating when wayland is broken for a whole bunch of things.

It's like a trend, similar to flatpak, the devs don't care so it doesn't get done but simultaneously you have to 'embrace' it even though it degrades your experience.

I mean I feel zero entitlement from open source, in fact I do the opposite, I contribute so it's not like that.

It's not even that things are broken in wayland, sure it's (relative to X) new and of course dealing with the likes of nvidia and tons of legacy code and yada yada can't be fun.

But it's that self-righteous, proselytising tone speaking down to you about why it is the Holy Choice that gets me. Dude, it breaks my shit ok? Shut up.

In the past tech bros and OSS geeks used to be openly 'difficult' in a way much, much derided these days.

But what we seem to have now are a bunch of people who never shut the fuck up about how you need to #bekind to everyone and how terrible everybody is and can't we all just hold hands.

All the while these very same people are behaving like total arseholes, only playing the role of some self-perceived victim while doing it and making sure it's all behind a veil of 'lashing out fairly because I am such a victim'.

Whereas in reality it's the exact same ego shit, just a much snakier kind.

To be honest I think I prefer ye olde arseholes, at least they were honest.

@ljs Same here. I just wish people stopped promoting these things like they are the solution for everyone, no exceptions. I loved tools like dmenu or rofi on X, and now then don't work anymore on GNOME as it doesn't support wlroots. I love most of the new features in Wayland though, like 1:1 gestures and snappy window dragging. Just too bad that we had to sacrifice things to get those features...

@thomy2000 yeah I understand this big of a transition will not be as smooth as everybody would like, but if people could just cool it with the angry speaking down stuff (while simultaneously playing the victim somehow) that'd be pretty great
