@icedquinn cryptocurrencies aren't always the solution.

@a1ba at least dlsite has an alternative payment method that works perfectly fine even if it’s very inflexible

@a1ba @jeder you have a duopoly engaging in extrajudicial bullshit. there's not a whole lot of options on the table to nonfactor or route around them.

@vbabka @icedquinn I used them but only on rare occasions because they are just too inconvenient.

Most wallets software is so shady, so the other option is download the whole blockchain and run a local node.

The transaction fee is customizable but you can't set it too low because it will take weeks to be put in the next block.

Exchange rates... I said about them already. Nobody really buys or sells stuff in cryptocurrency, it's usually get converted from fiat money. You can easily can lose 5% on random conversions alone.

Not to mention that despite all the freedom cryptocurrencies provide, the exchanges themselves aren't really free from laws. Search about exchanges shut down by feds or forced to ban clients, there is a lot of stories like that.

I'm not defending Visa/MasterCard here. They are the assholes here but the alternatives aren't really better.

@vbabka @icedquinn and it's not like I bought some shit like drugs or NFTs lol, I used them to pay for games, servers, domains, to buy electronics that aren't sold here.

But I still would prefer to not repeat this experience of converting money back and forth and waiting days for transaction to be processed and so on.

I despise cryptobros who tell me how easy cryptocurrencies are and solve my every problem. Sure, the tech is simple and easy if all you tell people that transactions are put into blocks into double linked list by computers finding random numbers that fit into current complexity.

But once it gets real, it's just not easy anymore and there are many pitfalls for an average Joe who don't care about Web3 shit.
